If depression is not severe, you can overcome it by your own. The therapists suggest "society treatment". It means that you must be into sport, go to school, do home task, communicate with your friends, and continue dating no matter how you do not want it! Tell yourself "I have to do it". Mostly, it helps to cope with the disorder without somebody's help. Sincere communication is to assist recovering as well.
However, sometimes depression could be very severe. So, a person needs professional help of a psychologist or even the medical treatment. Usually it is combined with the mental treatment as severe depression leads to suicide very often. Usually, a depressed person who gets regular timely help is able to return to his/her usual life and be happy again. The matter is that it is not like being crazy and socially dangerous. Mostly, it is a personal tragedy which is possible to treat.
If your friend tells you about his/her worrying, worthless and pitiful life or he/she becomes ignorant about the friends and studying, if he/she expresses thoughts about death, you should inform an adult person about that. Do not think that it is wrong. The wrong thing is when a person ends in suicide because of ignorance and thoughtfulness.
